SHOPPERS have been urged to race to their nearest Walmart for an incredible dupe of Pottery Barn’s stylish bamboo plate set.

While the Pottery Barn dinner plates come in at $99 for four, Walmart’s are a fraction of the price – at $29.99 for a four-piece set.

The “classic style” features a “sculptural bamboo rim” around the edge of the Walmart white plates, giving it an “elevated look”.

The set works well for a “variety of table settings” – whether you’re having a dinner party inside or a BBQ outside.

Not only that but the dinnerware, made from “exceptionally durable” melamine, is safe to put in the top shelf of a dishwasher.

“Looks and feels like ceramic, but lighter and more durable than ceramic,” Walmart says of the dinner set.

And it means that the plates are also suitable for kids to use – as they’re pretty much unbreakable.

As well as the plain white plates, the bamboo design features on some other more colourful options – one with a flamingo, one with pineapples and a third with Plumeria flowers.

The Walmart plates are supplied by a company called Supreme Housewares, who “offer a variety selection of kitchenware and whimsical products with great design and quality”.

Like the Walmart plates, the Pottery Barn ones are also dishwasher safe, but both are not suitable for use in the microwave.

The latter comes in a 9 or 11 inch plate set – for $99 for each set of four – while there are also cereal bowls available at $79 for a set of four.

It’s also worth noting that both melamine and bamboo are good options for any al fresco dining, as well as those dinnerware items made from stainless steel.

And all the material options are better than plastic, Food & Wine’s Testing Editor Jennifer Zyman explained.

“Most outdoor dinnerware is plastic, and even when brands attempt to make plastic look cool and sophisticated, it still often feels like children’s plates and bowls,” she said.

However, the addition of the bamboo rim makes both Walmart and Pottery Barn’s plates a lot more stylish than those of their competitors in the outdoor dining market.

Why doesn't Walmart offer Apple Pay?

CEO of Walmart Doug McMillon has revealed why stores don't offer Apple Pay on Stratechery with Ben Thompson.

Though using Apple Pay at the retailer has been an ongoing conversation, McMillon emphasized that “We would like to have the customers open our app in the store all the time.”

The app can be used to help find items in the store, but it can also be used to pay for your purchases.

“That’s one of the things that we would like people to use our app for,” he said.
