But when emergency services arrived at the house in a quiet road in Worcester, they found both mother and daughter with severe stab wounds and the daughter’s partner shouting he had acted in self-defence.
West Mercia Police launched a murder investigation and ultimately charged former DJ Damian Homer with murder and attempted murder.

The mother of Stacey Hill, she died trying to protect her daughter from a knife attack at Ms Hill’s home in March 2024.
“She would do anything for anyone.
“We will never come to terms with why this happened on the 2nd of March, but what we do know is she will be loved and missed forever.
“We know our loved ones don’t live forever, but this wasn’t her time, she was snatched away from us for reasons we will never understand.

How long was Damian Homer jailed for?
Lorry driver Damian Homer was sentenced to life in prison, with a minimum term of 20 years in November 2024.
During the sentencing hearing, the 51-year-old former dairy manager, DJ and care worker had his head bowed and at times sobbed.
Prosecutor Harpreet Sandhu KC said Ms Francis, 61, had gone to the property in Haresfield Close, Worcester on 2 March 2024, after being alerted by her daughter who had seen her partner arming himself with a kitchen knife.
Homer appeared to be “possessed” after an argument with Ms Hill in which she had threatened to break up with him and he had accused her of infidelity.

Ms Francis suffered deep wounds to her left lung and liver, went into cardiac arrest and died at 9.18pm.
Reading her victim impact statement to the court, Ms Hill said she would “never, ever be the same”, adding that she loved her mother “beyond words”.
But later he wrote a letter to Ms Hill, while he was in custody, saying “alcohol possessed me” and he had little recollection of the attacks.
The court heard he had begun to drink to excess in 1998, after losing his job and suffering back problems.
Sentencing Homer, Judge Rupert Mayo described the murder of Ms Francis as a “senseless killing” and said Homer had committed a “most selfish and cruel act”.
“It would not be an exaggeration to say that both women were fighting for their lives.”
“Her loss has left a huge hole in their lives.
“I would also like to commend the second victim, who survived Homer’s attack.
“I’d also like to thank the investigation team, who worked tirelessly to ensure that Homer was charged with murder and attempted murder as quickly as possible.
