Kevin Durant’s trade finally came down on Sunday, and no one appeared happier with it than the now-former Phoenix Suns forward himself.
“Being part of the Houston Rockets, I’m looking forward to it,” Durant told Kay Adams at a Fanatics event on Sunday. “Crazy, crazy last couple weeks, but I’m glad it’s over with.”
“They wanted me to go,” Durant said of his message to Suns fans. “Glad we both, they got what they wanted and I got what I wanted. We can move on and good luck to them moving forward. I’ll always remember my time there, but we’re on to something else.”

Kevin Durant traded to Rockets for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks and draft picks
In return for Durant, Phoenix received Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 overall pick in Wednesday’s NBA Draft and five second-round picks. It was a fraction of what the Suns spent to acquire him in 2023.
The move ended a long process that stretched back to the 2025 trade deadline, when Phoenix shopped Durant in talks with the Golden State Warriors without his knowing.
Reports in the last few weeks indicated the Suns weren’t opposed to trading Durant somewhere other than his preferred destinations, but entering the last year of his contract with the power to sign a two-year extension this offseason put all the leverage in Durant’s hands.
“When people can just hang your career in the balance like that and just choose what they want to do with your career, it’s a nerve wracking feeling,” Durant said. “But being able to kind of dictate what you wanna do and being with a team that values you, I’m looking forward to it.”

The forward said he had an idea the trade was coming but didn’t know exactly when, circling Houston’s leadership as a big reason why it was a preferred destination.
