DENVER (KDVR) — On Saturday evening, President Donald Trump announced that the United States military had bombed three nuclear sites in Iran.

US bombs three Iran nuclear sites, entering war

At 8 p.m., Trump addressed the nation following the attack.

“Our objective was the destruction of Iran’s nuclear enrichment capacity and a stop to the nuclear threat posed by the world’s number one state sponsor of terror. Tonight, I can report to the world that the strikes were a spectacular military success,” said Trump.

Colorado lawmakers weighed in on the incident.

Jared Polis

"I met with my public safety team this evening and directed that they coordinate with state, local and federal partners and remain vigilant against all threats to Coloradans and the state's infrastructure and military assets. The state is actively monitoring for any unusual or heightened activity and threats."

Jason Crow

"I'm seeking more information about the strikes against Iran, but here's what we do know: Trump broke a promise to prevent America from entering new conflicts. Trump has, once again, exceeded his authority. Congress must act now & reclaim constitutional power over America's use of military force."

Gabe Evans

"I'm glad to see @POTUS take action to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon. As a veteran of a Global War on Terror, I know we achieve peace through strength. Prayers and thanks to our brave men and women who carried out this necessary operation."

Brittany Pettersen

"Only Congress may authorize war. And the last person I would trust to lead us through this is Donald Trump. As we watch to see the results of this strike, my primary concern is the safety and security of American servicemembers and diplomats across the region. For the good of America and the world, we must prioritize diplomatic deescalation."

Jeff Crank

"Tonight, President Trump took decisive action to stop Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, protect Americans and build peace in the Middle East. Congratulations to the Department of Defense on a successful mission."

Diana DeGette

"Donald Trump's unauthorized strike against Iran is an act of war that requires Congressional approval. He did not come to Congress to explain his reasons for bombing a sovereign nation and to seek authorization for these strikes. These reckless actions are going to put the lives of American servicemembers and American citizens at risk."

"Additionally, these unconstitutional strikes threaten to expand conflict and further destabilize an already vulnerable region. The United States must now put its full diplomatic strength behind finding a peaceful resolution to this conflict. I am cosponsoring the war powers resolution in the House, and the administration must brief Congress as soon as possible."

Jeff Hurd

"The world is safer when America leads. I support efforts to protect U.S. security and stand with our allies. Grateful to our servicemembers for their professionalism and courage."
