In a 2024 tweet, Paige joked, “I know Shirley Temple hates to see me coming.” Then, after a recent home win against the Golden State Valkyries, Gatorade dropped off a surprise gift: a limited-edition Gatorade Shirley Temple, made just for the star athlete.
“Why post about it then if we can’t have it,” one commenter asked, rightfully skeptical. To which Devo replied, “My dm’s are insane about it. Bloggers are posting that it’s coming to stores. I had to relay the official statement from the company,” he says, “You could tag @gatorade here and help us get the flavor to the public!”
With the WNBA’s popularity on the rise and stars like Angel Reese, Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers dominating the court (and the conversation), it feels like a major missed opportunity for Gatorade not to release this flavor to the public. Devo’s post is flooded with comments like “Oooh yum,” “I want to try it so bad,” and “This needs to go nationwide,” so if there were ever a moment to bring back an iconic flavor, it’s now.
