Gayle’s interview was brilliantITV

The former power-hitting batter is known as the ‘Universe Boss’, and he brought the energy in this short conversation.

ITV managed to grab a word with Gayle, and he didn’t disappoint, though, he was aware his betting hadn’t gone too well.

Speaking to the British broadcaster, he was initially praised on his outfit and said: “Oh, thank you so much. Am I going to win the best-dressed award at Royal Ascot again in 2025?”

When told he was winning by miles, Gayle responded: “Oh yeah, I am in the lead like a jockey. Go Universe Boss. Go Universe Boss.

“You know what? ITV, I love you so much. Thank you for interviewing the Universe Boss.

“I love London.”

He was then asked about Ascot and said: “It’s the best. It is the best. I ain’t leaving. I ain’t leaving.”

However, it’s clear that he’s maybe not someone to get your tips from.

“I am not so lucky. You know what, I bet on a horse, and it’s still running,” he added.

“It hasn’t finished yet.

And despite being well into his 40s, he hasn’t officially retired, though he hasn’t played for the West Indies since 2021.

When he was at his peak, Gayle was one of the most devastating short-form batters in the world.

He used his immense frame and power to smash the ball to all parts.

The opener became the first West Indian batter in ODI cricket to score a double century with 215 against Zimbabwe, which remains the highest score by a left-handed batter in ODI cricket.

He also holds the record for both the highest and quickest T20 century in history.

So, he was a serious player, who just happens to also be a hilarious person.
