Shedeur Sanders has apologized after being cited by police for driving 101 mph.
The Cleveland Browns rookie was pulled over by an officer from Ohio’s Strongsville Police Department at 12:24am on Tuesday, June 17, for driving 41 mph over the posted 60 mph speed limit on a suburban interstate.
Sanders was this week cited for driving 41 mph over the speed limitGettyAddressing the incident on Thursday, the NFL star repeatedly insisted he has ‘learned’ from his mistake and condemned his ‘wrong’ choices.
“I’m just a little boy,” Sanders, who is locked in a four-way quarterback battle with Cleveland, said while appearing at teammate David Njoku’s charity softball game.
“I made some wrong choices, and I’ve got to own up to them.
“You know, I’ve made some not great choices… I learned. I learned… I learned.”
While Sanders’ words look good on paper, some who watched his apology have suggested that his delivery didn’t match them.
In the short clip, the rookie quarterback appears to be smiling throughout, before laughing at the end.
Because of his mannerisms, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio questioned if the apology was sincere.
“The words look good. The delivery didn’t match them,” he wrote of Sanders.
“Watch it and decide for yourself on whether the attitude matches the message.
“Whether he has truly gotten the message will be revealed by future behavior.

Florio, who has covered the NFL for 25 years, has also argued that the speeding ticket will be held against Sanders should he fail to produce for the Browns in the coming months.
He also noted that a new report from Cleveland.com reveals the former Colorado Buffaloes star, who suffered an all-time NFL Draft slide in April, was pulled over for speeding less than two weeks before the latest citation.
The 23-year-old was driving 91 mph in a 65 mph zone on Interstate 71.
“Anyone who has gotten a speeding ticket (and I have, two or three times over the years) takes it easy after getting pulled over,” Florio wrote.
“Pushing the speedometer past 100 mph only days after being caught speeding isn’t something most would do.
Sanders will return to the Browns in July after his off-field actions were questionedGetty“Generally speaking, driving too fast isn’t a character issue. Driving too fast by 41 mph, not long after being pulled over for driving too fast by 25 mph, is an awareness issue.
“Especially when the driver is or should be fully aware that anything and everything the driver does is going to be amplified and scrutinized.
“Will it matter if Sanders lights it up on the practice field during training camp? No.
“Will it be mentioned once or twice, or more often, if he doesn’t perform well? Absolutely.”
Sanders, who has drawn parallels with LeBron James after being ticketed for driving 101 mph in Cleveland, risks undoing all the good work he has done so far with the Browns.
Arriving as the 144th pick of the draft, many expected him to be below the likes of veteran Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel on Cleveland’s depth chart.
Now, though, there is suggestion Sanders has impressed in minicamp, with some insiders believing he could make a serious push to be Flacco’s backup, or even start himself by Week 8 of the 2025 season.
He is expected to have around a month off before returning to practice in late July, but due to his off-field behavior, the young QB now might need to work even harder to prove he deserves a spot on the roster.
