Amazon Prime Video isn’t debuting any new shows until later this month, but that doesn’t mean June is lacking in excitement.
Prime Video has a very deep library of TV shows, including some that didn’t get the attention they deserved the first time. The 2018 spy thriller Condor is one of those overlooked series, and it’s Watch With Us‘ pick for the one Amazon Prime Video show that you have to watch in June.
This series was based on the classic 1975 film Three Days of the Condor, which was itself based on author James Grady‘s Six Days of the Condor.
Max Irons — the son of legendary actor Jeremy Irons — had the daunting task of stepping into the role of Joe Turner, who was previously portrayed by Robert Redford. The younger Irons lived up to that, and he helped make Condor one of the best shows you may have never heard of before.

Max Irons Embodies the Non-Action Hero Protagonist
When it comes to spy action heroes, Hollywood tends to give us James Bond, Jack Ryan and Jack Bauer. These over-the-top fictional good guys can handle anything an action sequence throws at them. That’s why it’s so refreshing that Joe Turner isn’t like that. He’s just an ordinary CIA analyst who has been thrust into a dangerous situation that’s far beyond his pay grade.
Irons is terrific as he conveys Joe’s desperation and alarm after he’s swept into the crosshairs of a conspiracy that quickly frames him for murdering his fellow CIA officers. Somehow, Joe has to find a way to clear his name and get some answers — and he does it through his intelligence and wits rather than some macho posturing with guns. It’s a nice change of pace, and that makes the series even more enjoyable.
The Supporting Cast Is Incredible
How does a show that boasts a supporting cast like William Hurt, Mira Sorvino, Constance Zimmer and Brendan Fraser fall so far under the radar? It’s because Condor was on AT&T’s Audience Network, which, despite the name, didn’t have much of an audience. So, almost all of these great performances went unnoticed, even when the second season was moved over to Epix.

Hurt plays Joe’s uncle, Bob Partridge, the man who brought him into the CIA. It would spoil the surprise to share too much about Fraser’s character, but the clip above demonstrates some of his traits. Sorvino has a large role as Marty Frost, the woman who is in charge of the CIA’s investigation into Joe’s supposed crimes, while Zimmer’s Robin Larkin doesn’t appear until the second season.
Those are some of the bigger names in the cast, but Bob Balaban and Leem Lubany also deserve recognition for stellar performances on this show as well. Balaban plays Reuel Abbott, the Deputy Director of the CIA, and one of the key figures in the conspiracy. Lubany has a deliciously lethal turn as a freelance assassin, Gabrielle Joubert, who hunts for Joe after he makes his first mistake. She’s really terrific as a villain.
‘Condor’ Has a Satisfying Conclusion
Condor only had two seasons before it was canceled, but the good news is that the ending it received wasn’t abrupt, and it felt like a fitting conclusion. Unfortunately, if you want to watch the second season, it’s only on MGM+ at the moment.
Amazon Prime Video is only streaming the first season of Condor, and it’s slated to leave at the end of June. So the clock is ticking for you to catch the 10-episode first season of this gripping show. Condor should have been a big hit when it was released, but there’s no reason it can’t find a new audience during its brief time on Prime Video.
Condor is streaming on Prime Video.
