Arkansas suffered a heartbreaking loss to LSU on Wednesday night in Omaha, ending its 2025 season.

The Razorbacks led 5-3 in the 9th inning, but a couple of errors — one mental and one physical — ultimately led to their demise. The physical error was made by left fielder Charles Davalan, who miss-played a low line drive with 2 outs, allowing LSU to tie the game and eventually win it in that same inning.

After the game, coach Dave Van Horn shared some of the details from his conversation with Davalan.

“I went down finally made it to the bench before I came up here,” Van Horn said. “He’s pretty distraught. But I just told him — I started telling him how much I appreciated him and we would never have made it here without him.

“He said that he was sorry. And I said don’t tell me you’re sorry. You don’t have to tell me you’re sorry. And he said it again. It’s tough. That kid doesn’t have to be sorry for anything. He was our glue, man. He held it together.”

Davalan was an excellent hitter all season for the Razorbacks. He hit .346 with a .561 slugging percentage for Arkansas in 2025, which was his first season in Fayetteville after transferring in from Florida Gulf Coast.

This was Arkansas’ 12th appearance in Omaha overall and 8th under Van Horn, but the Razorbacks have not yet won the College World Series title.
