CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Nash County woman is suing a bank headquartered in Charlotte after her boss left a Chucky doll in her seat at work, the lawsuit says.
At the time, the woman was a relationship banker at a Truist Bank location in Rocky Mount.
The complaint notes that the woman has been diagnosed with major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and autoimmune disorder vitiligo — conditions that the lawsuit claims were known by her employer.
Signage installed atop Wells Fargo building in UptownThe lawsuit stems from an incident that occurred in June 2024, during her last week of new-hire training. It claims her then-manager allegedly placed a Chucky doll — "the doll that kills people" — in the woman's chair.
The complaint alleges that the manager was aware of her fear of dolls and how that fear negatively affected her medical conditions.
She claims the manager's action "worsened" her medical condition and caused her to seek immediate medical attention. She says the manager laughed when he saw her reaction to the doll.
Following her seeking medical treatment, the employee was placed on medical leave for eight weeks. She has reportedly since been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
The woman returned to work and was placed in a different office, but claims she was allegedly treated differently from her coworkers, especially when she made mistakes.
On Jan. 29, she was called into a meeting with her new supervisors who allegedly stated she "cannot keep using her anxiety and emotional problems as an excuse." She received a notification that if she didn't improve, she'd be fired the next month.
Due to her suffering from several panic attacks following the meeting, she was taken out of work for treatment.
Now, the woman is suing her former employee for discrimination and retaliation she experienced because of her disabilities. She's seeking financial compensation for monetary losses and non-monetary losses as well as back pay with interest for the alleged humiliation, embarrassment, and emotional distress.
