Anne Burrell, a prominent figure in the culinary television landscape, has tragically passed away at the age of 55. Her death occurred on June 17, 2025, at her home in New York, marking a significant loss for both fans and colleagues in the culinary community . Police were called to her address before 8 a.m. Tuesday and found an unresponsive woman who was soon pronounced dead. The police department did not release the woman’s name, but records show it was Burell’s address.
Burrell was on TV screens as recently as April, making chicken Milanese cutlets topped with escarole salad in one of her many appearances on NBC’s “Today” show. She faced off against other top chefs on the Food Network’s “House of Knives” earlier in the spring.
She is survived by her husband Stuart Claxton, whom she wed on Oct. 16, 2021, and his son, Javier, as well as her mother, Marlene, and sister, Jane, her children Isabella, Amelia and Nicolas, and her brother Ben.
"Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend — her smile lit up every room she entered," her family said in a statement. "Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal."
Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death. No further details have been released regarding possible medical history or circumstances leading up to her passing.
Burrell rose to fame through her work on popular cooking programmes including Worst Cooks in America, Iron Chef America, Chopped, and Secrets of a Restaurant Chef, the latter of which earned her an Emmy nomination and ran for nine seasons.
In addition to her television career, Burrell's background included extensive experience as a restaurant chef.
