Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty had on Sunday, June 15, 2025, two separate phone calls with US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to US President Donald Trump on Arab and Middle East Affairs and Senior Advisor for Africa. Abdelatty and Witkoff spoke about the growing escalation in the Middle East due to the military confrontation between Israel and Iran, which poses a threat to the regional security and stability.
The top Egyptian diplomat stressed the need for putting an end to this military escalation and resorting to political and diplomatic solutions, to prevent the region from descending into a vicious cycle of violence.
The foreign minister also underlined the importance of reaching a ceasefire and resuming the negotiations between the US and Iran over the Iranian nuclear program. Meanwhile, Abdelatty discussed with Boulos the latest developments in Sudan, Libya and the Great Lakes region, as they emphasized the significance of intensifying the Egyptian-US coordination to find political solution to those crises, while backing the national institutions of countries and respecting their sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.
