Former Florida State star outfielder James Tibbs III saw his life change on Sunday night with 1 swift blockbuster trade.
The Boston Red Sox shipped superstar slugger Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants in exchange for Tibbs, right-hander Jordan Hicks, left-hander Kyle Harrison and minor-league righty Jose Bello, according to the Boston Globe. The shocking Devers deal was confirmed by CBS Sports, and with that Tibbs is heading east to continue a baseball journey that has high expectations.
Tibbs was drafted by the Giants with the 13th overall pick in the 2024 Major League Baseball draft. Last summer, Tibbs signed a $4.75 million contract with the Giants. Tibbs was a top prospect entering that 2024 draft, and now he’ll be trying to prove his worth in the Red Sox organization, which sent shock waves through the baseball world on Sunday night by sending the 3-time All-Star to San Francisco.
As a freshman at FSU in 2022, Tibbs hit exactly .300 in 56 games with 10 homers and 32 RBI in 170 at-bats. There was no sophomore jinx for Tibbs in Tallahassee, as he started all 54 games and hit .339 with 17 homers and 43 RBI in 195 at-bats. Tibbs played in the prestigious Cape Cod League in the summer of 2023 and was named a league all-star with the Brewster Whitecaps.
Now, after less than a calendar year with the Giants organization, Tibbs’s baseball life has changed as his goals to be a productive major-leaguer stay the same.
