Rocco’s Jello Shot Challenge is the game within the game at the College World Series in Omaha.
It’s become the scoreboard that fans look at when they’re tired of looking at the scores of the baseball games. Or when the games that day don’t go their way, and they want a nice distraction. Either way, down the road from where the CWS is staged, in downtown Omaha, there is a place called Rocco’s Pizza and Cantina, and it’s become the centerpiece of this ever-popular contest.
The restaurant and favorite gathering place this time of year, as the 8 teams compete for the national title in baseball, is the site of the other June contest in Omaha. You see, Rocco’s is famous for its Jello shots, and it’s become the job of Rocco’s to sell as many shots of Jello to the 8 fan bases who make the annual trek to Omaha. There are bragging rights on the field and, ultimately, a trophy, and there are bragging rights at Rocco’s, where those 8 fan bases compete to see who can take down the most shots.

LSU has the all-time record, set in 2023, and those LSU fans are back in 2025 to try to equal or better it, as the Tigers earned their way back to the College World Series. Tigers fans bought an astounding 68,888 shots during that 2023 run, which is an equally astounding 30,000 more than the next-closest finisher in the event. By the way, LSU also managed to win the actual CWS in 2023, so it was a double shot of glory that June, you might say, for LSU that it hopes to repeat 2 years later.
Rocco’s updated its leaderboard at 10 p.m. local time on Friday night, and here is what the number said after Day 1:
