U.S. Border Patrol agents recently seized 13 pounds of methamphetamine at a traffic checkpoint on Interstate 8 in Pine Valley, according to a press release.
Patting down the driver of a blue coupe referred to secondary inspection, they found six bundles of the drug plastic-wrapped to his back and ankles.
The stash has an estimated worth of more than $15,000 on the street.
The Drug Enforcement Administration took the driver, a male U.S. citizen, into custody on Sunday. His case has been directed to federal prosecutors.
Since last October, 2,538 pounds of methamphetamine have been seized in U.S. Customs and Border Patrol’s San Diego Sector.
The sector’s southern boundary runs 60 miles along the international border, terminating in the Imperial Valley.
Border Patrol’s Campo Station in Pine Valley manages the Interstate 8 checkpoint. The station oversees more than 400 square miles in rural, eastern San Diego County and patrols 11.3 miles along the southern border.
