Temba Bavuma is leaving no stone unturned in his bid to lead South Africa to thr WTC title. The Proteas skipper joined the well set Aiden Markram in the middle as SA went about chasing a stiff 282 to lift the mace.
However, Bavuma’s plans hit a major roadblock after suffering a hamstring injury. The veteran was treated by the physios before Tea, but was limping while running between the wickes. It was confirmed he suffered a left hamstring strain, but soldiered on under the Sun at Lord’s. Bavuma despite the struggled laboured to run twos, providing support to Markram.
Bavuma had suffered an elbow injury 2 months before the WTC Final 2025 but made a recovery in time. His efforts on Friday reminded of Graeme Smith, who batted with a fractured hand in 2012. Bavuma, despite the danger of further aggravating the injury, piled on the misery on the Australian attack.

Chasing 282, South Africa are now in the drivers’ seat thanks to a stellar partnership between Markram and Bavuma. The duo put on a century stand, with both players reaching their half-century. It was the highest partnership of the WTC Final 2025, putting the Proteas within a 100 runs of the target.
