Kali Benson will serve as the new director of the Weld County Colorado State University Extension Office.

Benson previously provided oversight of extension and 4-H services as the Elbert County Extension director, according to a Weld County news release.

In 2014, she worked as a county 4-H, horticulture and natural resources extension agent at Colorado State University, the release said. Before that, she began her career at Alltech, an agricultural company, serving as a quality assurance and control coordinator.

She received a Bachelor of Science in animal science from New Mexico State University and later earned a Master of Science in animal science.

“Kali brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with her related to agriculture and 4-H programs,” Commissioner Chair Perry Buck said in the release. “We know she will lead the Extension Office well and is joining a great team of people.”

In the CSU Extension Office role, Benson will provide assistance and programs to 4-H, livestock, agriculture, horticulture, gardening and food and nutrition, according to the Weld County website. The office “encourages the application of research-based knowledge in response to local, state and national issues” affecting these focus areas.

Weld County conducted a nationwide search before selecting Benson.

“There is a long history of outstanding agents, extension programming, community involvement and support for agriculture in Weld County,” Benson said in the release. “I look forward to becoming a member of the community and supporting all of the Colorado State University Extension and Weld County team members in their efforts to connect and build educational opportunities for residents.”
