As loneliness and social isolation affect nearly half of U.S. adults, Weld County is hosting “connection workshops” to combat this issue.
As part of Loneliness Awareness Week, founded in 2017, the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment collaborates with local partners for a community-wide campaign called Acts of Connection, according to a county news release.
The campaign incorporates connection workshops, two-hour interactive sessions designed for adults that cover topics including recognizing signs of loneliness, the importance of connection and strategies to build social ties, the release said.
Community members can attend a free workshop from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, June 26 at North Range Behavioral Health’s Caring Legacy Building, 2105 Clubhouse Drive in Greeley.
A recent U.S. Surgeon General’s advisory report indicated nearly half of adults in the U.S. report feeling lonely and socially isolated, affecting all ages and backgrounds, according to the release. These feelings can lead to negative impacts on a person’s mental and physical health.
Acts of Connection, launched last year as part of Weld County’s Community Health Improvement Plan, “encourages residents to build meaningful relationships and foster a culture of connection throughout the community,” according to the release.
Weld County will announce more sessions in the coming weeks. Organizations interested in hosting a Connection Workshop should contact Olivia Egen at oegen@weld.gov.
