ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Older adults got a chance to play with professional musicians in the Rochester area on Tuesday night as part of the Eastman Community Music School’s New Horizons Music Camp.
The performance took place at Nazareth University at the Masters Family Theater. The program also allows musicians to experience some of the city’s cultural highlights, such as the George Eastman House and Strong National Museum of Play. The camp’s message is that you’re never too old to start performing music.
“The program itself, New Horizons, started in 1991 by an Eastman professor named Roy Ernst,” said David Shemancik, the camp’s director. “And he thought that senior citizens needed a way to make music and do something more interesting and to be social as well. And so that idea blossomed into New Horizons programs all over.”
The camp is offered yearly and registration for next year has not yet opened. You can learn more here.
