The 2024/25 Premier League season finished just under a month ago, but the next campaign will roll around quicker than ever.
Despite the lack of a major international tournament this summer, the revamped Club World Cup means there’s little rest for the elite.
Virgil van Dijk is the first Dutchman to captain a Premier League-winning sideGettyLiverpool became top-flight champions for a record-equalling 20th time this campaign in Arne Slot‘s first year in charge.
The new Premier League season gets underway in mid-August, but anticipation will ramp up once the fixtures have been released.
When is the Premier League fixture release date?
The weekly schedule of all 380 matches for the 2025/26 English top-flight season is scheduled for Wednesday, June 18.
It will be released at 9am UK time.
The initial fixtures will still be subject to change when both the radio and television companies have confirmed their broadcast picks.
Dates for all Premier League games will be released, but progression in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup will also lead to changes during the year.
The opening weekend match-ups, major derbies, and Christmas and New Year games will all be confirmed on that day.
Following criticism from fans, it has been determined that there will not be a game played on Christmas Eve for a second successive year.
There will be four international breaks throughout the campaign too, with those happening in September, October, November and March.
The Africa Cup of Nations also take place this year in December and January, but the league will continue to run through that.

Contrary to popular opinion, there is a method to the madness, and a random generator doesn’t decide the fixture list.
The man behind the list is Glenn Thompson, of Atos, an international IT services company, who has collated over 60,000 matches since taking charge back in 1992.
On when he starts work on the next season’s fixture list, Thompson told the Premier League’s website: “For me it is at the start of the year when I get the playing dates from the Premier League.
“The whole thing is built up, putting in the international dates from FIFA, then the European club competitions. Then the Football Association adds the dates for its competitions. You’re left with the dates when you can play league and League Cup matches.
“We also consult fan representatives, from the Football Supporters’ Federation, and other stakeholders, to take on board their views.
“Around March, the Premier League sends to its clubs a form asking questions such as whether there are there any dates they wish not to be at home – which is answered in conjunction with the local police – and whether there are any teams they do not wish to play at home on Boxing Day.”
Farke led Leeds to 100 points at the Championship titleGettyThompson then creates a fixture sequence which places each club in a pairing grid, which defines the dates they will be at home.
For every game, the fixture computer knows which clubs are at home and which teams are away, and then it will mix them up at random.
In any five matches, the building blocks are that sides should get three home ties and two away, with the process then reversed.
This system prevents teams from playing successive home or away games at the start or end of the season to avoid a disadvantage.
Some clubs will have a partner team that their home games cannot clash with, such as the two Manchester sides, as well as Liverpool and Everton.
Another added rule is that if you are scheduled to play at home on Boxing Day, you will then be away on New Year’s Day, and vice versa.
Arsenal will look to mount another title challenge in 25/26GettyWhen does the new Premier League season start?
The 2025/26 Premier League season will start on Saturday, August 16.
This means players will be given 83 days of rest from playing domestic football in between the end of the current campaign and the next.
That is the maximum amount of rest time available to be given.
But those featuring in the Club World Cup won’t have that full rest time, as they will be playing in that competition in between.
The 25/26 Premier League season is then scheduled to end on Sunday, May 24 2026, meaning it will last just over nine months.
As usual, games on the final day will be played simultaneously, with every player afforded the same break time before the 2026 World Cup next summer.
