A fast-moving wildfire that ignited on Tuesday afternoon, June 9 south of Apple Valley quickly spread across more than 1,500 acres, threatening multiple structures and prompting mandatory evacuations in parts of the San Bernardino County high desert, Cal Fire said.
The Ranch Fire was reported just after 2:30 p.m. near Bowen Ranch Road and Coxey Truck Trail, according to Cal Fire. By 4:30 p.m., the blaze had grown to 1,533 acres, fueled by high winds and low humidity.
Evacuation orders were issued for the area from Milpas Drive to High Road, south of Highway 18, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said. An emergency alert was sent to residents in the affected zone.
An evacuation center has been established at Sitting Bull Academy, located at 19445 Sitting Bull Road in Apple Valley.
“Please evacuate safely and immediately,” the sheriff’s department posted on X.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
