Concerts on the Green at Kate Sessions Park to return in July ...Middle East

News by : (Times of San Diego) -

In what’s becoming an evergreen event, the annual free Pacific Beach Town Council-sponsored Concerts on the Green at Kate Sessions Park will present five live concerts this year on consecutive Sundays from July 13 to Aug. 10.

“We’ve been doing this now for about a decade,” said PBTC president Charlie Nieto, adding that local bands featured help establish a “neighborhood connection. It’s unique and one of the largest free concerts in the entire city, and is exciting to see.”

Nieto said each concert date and band stand alone as being unique in their own right. “We don’t have an overriding theme,” he said. “Each concert has a different flavor and flair. Every concert is different from the rest.”

Nieto noted the music styles offered in 2025 are far-ranging. “There will be some old rock,” he said. “But we also have some local beach-themed community favorites. We wanted to create a broad San Diego beach tropical vibe.”

This year’s group of musical entertainment will include a reggae band as well as a mix of jazz performers. “We’re trying to keep it diverse,” said Nieto, noting the number of weeks was increased from four to five last year, which is continuing.

Once again this year, the first concert in the five-part series will be something special. “Similar to last year, which was probably one of our best-received concerts overall, we will have a community night showcase,” said Nieto. “The difference between that and the rest of the concert lineup is that it is sort of a little music festival in that night alone. It’s just a nice way to kick off the whole event, allowing for multiple, smaller artists to be shown off all at once.”

There will also be food vendors with a kids’ area set aside with games and activities, like a baby race sponsored by San Diego Running Company, with the winning family receiving a prize. There will also be representation from the San Diego Gulls AHL Hockey team, as well as King’s Cross Church of San Diego, nearby on Soledad Mountain Road.

“The events will run from 4-7 p.m. with a break around 6 p.m.,” said Nieto, who added each show will start with a smaller local band playing. “We’re also going to be having some fun activities to liven up the event and raise the energy before bands play, like limbo games and some dance time,” he said.

PBTC’s president pointed out that the concerts are expensive, costing about $50,000 per concert, including staging and all other associated costs.

“It’s all paid for through local businesses’ support to keep the event going, so we do not have to shrink it,” Nieto said.
