The ODI World Cup has been the pinnacle of cricket ever since it came into existence in 1975. The ODI format itself gained the most popularity in the 1990s and by now, it’s viewed as the weakest of the three formats. But when it comes to the prestige, no ICC trophy ranks above the ODI World Cup.
And Pat Cummins doesn’t disagree. The Australian captain is looking to win his 3rd ICC title as he takes on South Africa in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2025 at Lord’s. He has already won the Test Mace in 2023 by beating India and claimed the 2023 ODI World Cup against the same opposition as well.

But will having 2 Test maces add the charm and make the WTC more memorable to Cummins? He says no. The fast bowler values the Test mace/WTC, as it’s an ICC trophy but he doesn’t think it beats winning the ODI World Cup, especially against an Indian team that looked virtually unbeatable.
“It’s an ICC trophy so it’s right up there. You only get a few opportunities, you know, if you’re lucky in your career to try and win one. So it’s a trophy we’ve spoken a lot about over the last couple of years. We wanted to be in this final. Personally, I think that the 2023 World Cup title is going to be tough to beat. But this is a good one. Test cricket is my favourite format. You’ve got to basically win in all different conditions to make it into this final. You’re competing against all test-playing nations, so it’s really special to be here in the final and yeah, we can retain that mace; that’s a pretty awesome thing for this team,” Pat Cummins told reporters at Lord’s.
