Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne appeared on McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning on Tuesday and shared some interesting thoughts on the future of Yea Alabama and NIL.
With the House Settlement being approved on Friday evening, NIL collectives like Yea Alabama will be less pertinent for the success of top college football programs. Schools will now be able to pay players directly via revenue sharing for the first time.
NIL payments will still be legal, but deals worth more than $600 will be more heavily-scrutinized moving forward. All deals will be subject to approval by an NIL clearinghouse.
“Private donation [deals] are going to struggle on that side,” Byrne told McElroy and Cubelic. “But legitimate business opportunities, they’ll be OK. You’re not going to get a half-million dollars for showing up for an ice cream shop and putting it out on Instagram anymore.”

Due to that change, Byrne said Tuesday morning that Yea Alabama will be used primarily for content production moving forward.
“One of the really good things now as we’ve been trying to encourage everybody to give to Yea Alabama, the collective part of donations are going to be very limited going forward,” Byrne added.
Most recently, Yea Alabama subscribers were first to learn of Labaron Philon’s return to Tuscaloosa for the 2025-26 season. Byrne said Yea Alabama will continue to be used to break certain news items moving forward.
