Protests arose across the country in response Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrests in Los Angeles that resulted in President Trump deploying thousands of National Guard troops and Marines to the city.
Demonstrators gathered in multiple cities to support local protests in Los Angeles.
Here is a closer look at rallies launched throughout the nation:
Dallas
Late Monday evening, hundreds of demonstrators gathered in Dallas to protest the Trump administration’s deportation crackdown. Police declared the event an unlawful assembly, according to ABC 8, and ordered protesters in the area to disperse.
“Trump has called for the National Guard to be deployed in suppressing the people's movement for immigrants coming out of LA. We have a right to speak out against the brutal, racist and anti-worker policies of the Trump administration,” organizers wrote in a statement online.
“Dallas will not sit by as people are punished for standing against the inhumanity of ICE!”
Atlanta
Protesters in Atlanta gathered without issue on Monday outside of a local ICE building, according to reports from WSB.
Students and labor union members reportedly carried signs in objection to the detainment of David Huerta, a California union leader charged in federal court with conspiracy to impede an officer after he was arrested on Friday while protesting federal immigration enforcement efforts.
“I find what the government is doing as executive overreach,” protestor David Harris told the outlet.
Austin, Texas
Large crowds in Austin, Texas protested ICE raids and arrests on Monday. They stood at the south steps of the Texas State Capitol, and an hour later authorities announced that the area would be closed to the public.
“Between the Austin Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety, more than a dozen protesters were arrested in Austin,” Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R ) wrote in a post on X.
“Peaceful protesting is legal. But once you cross the line, you will be arrested.”
New York City
On Monday, dozens of protesters gathered near Trump Tower in Manhattan, urging White House officials to return deportees sent to El Salvador’s CECOT prison.
“For years President Trump has demonized immigrants, people who have come here to flee persecution, to find a better life, to seek freedom, to study, to find work, and to join family members already here,” the organizing group, Rise and Resist, wrote in a statement on the demonstrations.
“We are demanding that the Administration bring everyone back from CECOT to the United States, release them from ICE custody, return them to their homes and families and allow them their day in court,” it added.
The group said it plans to follow up on Monday’s actions with protests outside of Fox News’ New York headquarters on Tuesday.
On Saturday, A cluster of 150 protestors assembled outside of a federal building in New York City, following Friday demonstrations in Los Angeles. The Department of Homeland Security said 5 individuals were arrested for their actions during the rally in New York City.
