An El Paso County child and an Arapahoe County adult caught the measles from two separate outbreaks, bringing Colorado’s total number of cases this year up to 14, state health officials said.
The El Paso County child, who is less than 5 years old, recently traveled with family to Ontario, Canada, where a measles outbreak is ongoing, according to a news release from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

Health officials said the child had received one dose of the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine. Two doses of the measles vaccine are about 97% effective in preventing infection.
The Arapahoe County adult was at Denver International Airport on May 13 and was exposed to the measles virus by an infected out-of-state traveler, health officials said.
Seven other measles patients confirmed in Colorado passed through DIA at the same time as the initially infected person.
The measles virus can linger in the air for about two hours.
The two new patients traveled to multiple hospitals and stores last week, health officials said. The public should watch for measles symptoms if they visited:
