The British Chef-Approved Way to Make a Green Smoothie 10x Better ...Saudi Arabia

News by : (Parade) -

According to English celebrity chef and food writer Heston Blumenthal, author of the book Is This a Cookbook?, parsley belongs in your smoothie. Before we lose you, hear us out. Here's why this herb is a great addition to your morning beverage routine.

Why You Should Add Parsley to Smoothies

Smoothies can easily be cloyingly sweet, but that's where parsley comes in. The addition of leafy green herb brings an herbaceous, grassy (in a good way) flavor to your drink that’s “unexpectedly wonderful,” in the words of Blumenthal. The British chef goes on to explain the combo, saying "a greenish, unripe banana and parsley combine to produce something that is neither sweet nor savoury." It's a fresh-tasting take on a green juice and a fun new way to kick-start your day.

How to Make a Green Smoothie With Parsley

In addition to the banana, you’ll need one Persian cucumber, a large handful of parsley leaves (flat-leaf or curly parsley), and about ⅔ cup of unflavored yogurt or kefir. Kefir and yogurt are both great sources of probiotics, which are also key for a thriving gut microbiome.

If you’re worried about the herbal flavor overpowering your drink, you can add some natural sweetness by using a riper banana or adding a pitted date or a handful of fresh or frozen berries. A squeeze of honey or agave syrup would be great, too. A chopped green apple would keep your smoothie’s vibrant green color and add a bright and fruity kick.
