DENVER (KDVR) — It's starting to feel like summer with farmers' markets and temperatures nearing 90 degrees, but it will take some time before Colorado's beloved seasonal produce hits the shelves.
In the summer, the Centennial State is known for some warm-weather staples, like hiking 14ers and spotting wildlife around the state. During the summer, there's also some produce Colorado is known for, like the renowned Palisade peaches and Pueblo green chilis.

When will Colorado-grown produce be in stock?
Jessica Trowbridge with King Soopers and City Market said some of the popular items won't start arriving or hitting the shelves until mid-to-late summer. Here's the current estimate for when the produce will be in stores at King Soopers and City Market:
Palisade peaches
Palisade peaches, which are grown in western Colorado, will most likely be the first in stores. Trowbridge said the juicy peaches are estimated to hit the shelves in early July.
While the peaches are expected to be in stores for early July, in 2024, the peaches were being sold at smaller stores and farmers markets before they hit King Sooper's shelves in mid-July, with the volume ramping up by the end of the month.
Olathe sweet corn
Olathe sweet corn, which is grown on the Western Slope, is estimated to hit the shelves in mid-July. The first harvest in 2024 was around the middle of July, with peak season in late August and early September.
Rocky Ford melons
Rocky Ford melons, which are grown in southeastern Colorado, will come to Denver stores around late July, just after the peaches and sweet corn. In 2024, Trowbridge said the peak distribution was in late August to early September.
Pueblo green chilis
Pueblo green chilis, which are grown in southern Colorado, are expected to be in stores in early August.
National Western Center to begin expansion on equestrian center, hotelWhile these popular items won't be in stores for about another month, other Colorado produce is already in season. According to the Colorado Department of Agriculture's produce calendar, vegetables like arugula, collards, kale, lettuce, mustard, turnips and spinach are in season now, while fruits like cherries and strawberries are in season in early to mid-June.
