Favourites to win 2025 US Open: Scheffler heavily tipped as McIlroy and DeChambeau do battle again ...Middle East

The US Open is almost here as the world’s biggest stars look to win golf’s third major of the year at Oakmont.

Rory McIlroy won The Masters to complete the career Grand Slam in April before Scottie Scheffler claimed PGA Championship glory in May.

Now, another major champion will be crowned as Bryson DeChambeau defends his title in Pennsylvania.

It promises to be another thriller after DeChambeau and McIlroy’s battle last year, and here are the favourites to come out on top…

Scottie Scheffler 5/2

World No.1 Scheffler is the clear favourite to win the US Open for a reason.

He is in incredible form after making a slow start to the 2025 season, winning three of the last four events he’s played in.

The 28-year-old won the Byron Nelson before following up glory at the PGA Championship with victory at Memorial.

Scheffler hasn’t finished outside the top 10 since March, so he’ll surely be up there challenging at the top of the leaderboard again.

Despite not winning the US Open yet, he’s finished T7, T2 and third in recent years and will want to go all the way this time.

Bryson De Chambeau 7/1

LIV Golf star DeChambeau is the defending US Open champion and he’s looking for his third win in the major.

He also came out on top in 2020, so to see him tipped as one of the favourites to do so again isn’t a shock.

On top of his record in this event, he’s also heading to Oakmont in great form, having finished T2 in the PGA Championship and T5 in The Masters.

DeChambeau also won in Korea on the LIV tour recently so his confidence will be sky high.

His main weakness in recent months have been his irons and he will have a new set in the bag for Oakmont.

Rory McIlroy 9/1

Masters champion McIlroy will have some bad memories come rushing back when he begins the US Open.

Last year, he led with five holes to play in the final round before collapsing late on to hand the title to DeChambeau.

And that followed another second-place in 2023, when Wyndham Clark held off McIlroy to win by a shot.

While those near-misses were heartbreaking, it show McIlroy loves playing in the US Open and his record in the event is superb.

However, post-Masters, his form is not and he missed the cut at the Canadian Open last weekend as his driver struggles continue.

Jon Rahm 11/1

LIV star Jon Rahm will be hoping to bring an end to his recent woes in the majors.

Since his Masters win in 2023, he hasn’t tasted major success again, but he has won this tournament before.

The Spaniard’s first-ever major came in the 2021 US Open as he took home over $2million for finishing ahead of Louis Oosthuizen at Torrey Pines.

He will hope to recreate that win, but he failed to finish inside the top five at The Masters and the PGA Championship this season.

Rahm was consoled by his wife after faltering over his final three holes at Quail Hollow, allowing Scheffler to run away with it.

Xander Schauffele 20/1

After winning two majors in 2024, World No.3 Xander Schauffele has struggled to reach the same heights this year following some injury issues.

He only has one top 10 finish in nine events this season but that did come at The Masters.

Schauffele’s struggles mean his odds of winning the US Open aren’t as short as in previous years, but you definitely can’t count him out.

In eight appearances in the event, he has finished inside the top 10 seven times, with his best finish coming in 2019 in third.

Collin Morikawa 22/1

Morikawa has had a steady if unspectacular year to date.

Second place finishes at The Sentry and Arnold Palmer have been his highlights and he hasn’t missed a cut all season.

But he failed to get into contention at either major so far this summer and will hope to change that at Oakmont, utilising his accurate iron game.

Morikawa is a two-time major winner but may struggle with the length of this US Open.
