Texas scored a huge recruiting victory in early June, getting a commitment from 2026 wide receiver Kohen Brown after it seemed like Brown was headed to USC.
Instead, Brown told On3 on Sunday afternoon that he was going to stay close to home and attend Texas. The 6-foot, 190-pounder is a 3-star wideout from Waxahachie, Texas, who had committed to USC. But Brown had 2nd thoughts, and Texas extended an offer to Brown on May 15, less than a week after Brown’s commitment to USC came to an end.
Brown was all revved up about his new collegiate destination, writing “This is home #HookEm” on social media on Sunday.

— Hayes Fawcett (@Hayesfawcett3) June 8, 2025In the end, Brown chose Texas over USC, and he chose the SEC over the Big Ten. Notre Dame, Utah and Ole Miss were also in the mix for his services. Brown made an official visit to Texas this past weekend, and that was it.
Brown is the 2nd wide receiver commitment for Texas in the Class of 2026, joining Chris Stewart. Texas now has 11 commits in the 2026 class.
He is the 515th-ranked player in the Class of 2026, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s the 84th-ranked wide receiver in the class and the 72nd-ranked player from the state of Texas.
And now, Texas is apparently where Brown will be staying as he heads to Austin in 2026.
