Greg McElroy gives his take on the Miami win total for 2025 ...Middle East

Miami is a team remade in 2025, and that means there’s quite a bit of variance that will factor into their season.

After going 10-3 last year, Miami said goodbye to Heisman Trophy finalist Cam Ward and hello to former Georgia starter Carson Beck. Ward went first overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. Beck is coming off a disappointing season that ended prematurely because of an injury to his throwing elbow that required surgery. The U also lost their top 6 pass-catchers from last year’s team, their top running back, a heart-and-soul kind of linebacker, and a couple of key defensive linemen.

Coach Mario Cristobal also showed defensive coordinator Lance Guidry the door and replaced him with Minnesota’s Corey Hetherman.

At bet365, the regular-season win total for the Hurricanes is set at 8.5.

On the Always College Football podcast this week, Greg McElroy explained why he’s taking the over on that number.

“I think, if you look at everything they have, all the teams they have, I feel pretty comfortable backing the Hurricanes this year,” McElroy said.

Miami opens the 2025 season at home against Notre Dame. It welcomes Florida to town on Sept. 20. The first road game of the season comes 2 weeks later against Florida State.

Bye weeks sandwich that matchup with the Seminoles before the ‘Canes close the season with 7 games in 7 weeks.

Miami started hot last season, winning each of its first 9 contests, but faded down the stretch. The Hurricanes lost to Iowa State by 1 point in the Pop-Tarts bowl on Dec. 28 — their third loss in 4 games to close out the season. Still, the Hurricanes cleared 9 wins for the first time since 2017.
