Birmingham City have made an enquiry to Al Ettifaq about re-signing Demarai Gray, talkSPORT understands.
Gray has spent two seasons at the Saudi Pro League side since leaving Everton in the summer of 2023.
Jamaica international Gray is keen to return to EnglandShutterstock EditorialHowever, the 28-year-old has scored only four goals across his 50 appearances for the club, none of which came in the 2024/25 season.
It is understood that Gray wants to return to English football, but would ideally like to play in the Premier League.
This could come as a blow to former club Birmingham after their promotion to the Championship following their League One title win.
Sunderland made an approach in January but haven’t rekindled their interest this summer, whilst Italian side Fiorentina explored a loan.
Al Ettifaq would be happy to sell the winger for a fee of £8million.
Gray joined the Birmingham youth system in 2006 before making his senior debut for the club in October 2013 at the age of 17.
He featured 78 times for the Blues and scored eight goals ahead of a reported £3.7million move to Leicester City in January 2016.
Just four months after signing, Gray became part of the legendary Foxes side that won the Premier League title at odds of 5000/1.
The winger scored 13 goals and assisted 14 in 169 appearances during his five-year stay ahead of a move to Bayer Leverkusen.
However, he spent just six months in Germany and left for Everton in July 2021 for a second Premier League stint.

Al Ettifaq then signed him on a four-year deal in the same summer that England and Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard became manager.
He got off to a dream start in the Saudi Pro League by assisting two goals in a 3-1 win against Abha Club.
Gray was a regular starter under Gerrard before the manager left at the beginning of the year.
Saad Al Shehri was named as the replacement, but Gray hasn’t scored a single goal since then.
