Flights at Denver International Airport were grounded Wednesday afternoon as thunderstorms brought the threat of hail and tornadoes to parts of the Front Range and Eastern Plains.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued the ground stop at DIA from 3:30 p.m. until 5 p.m., and it may be extended, according to the agency’s website.

Flights are delayed by an average of 71 minutes. There were 494 delays and three canceled flights at DIA as of 4:15 p.m., according to the flight tracking website FlightAware.
