Former college basketball player Jarred Shaw could face the death penalty after he was arrested for possessing cannabis-infused candy in Indonesia recently.

According to TMZ, Shaw was taken into custody at the airport on May 7 after police were tipped off that he received a “suspicious package” from Thailand. The report says police raided Shaw’s apartment and seized 132 candies laced with cannabis.

Indonesia has extremely strict drug laws, so this is a serious offense for Shaw. He could face punishments up to the death penalty or life in prison if convicted.

Shaw was in Indonesia as a player for the Tangerang Hawks. Following his arrest, the Hawks parted ways with Shaw. He was also banned for life from the Indonesian Basketball League.

“We don’t tolerate players, administrators or anyone in the field involved in drugs. There is no room for drug users in the basketball world,” team chairman Budisatrio Djiwandono said, via CBS News.

Shaw, 34, played college basketball at Oklahoma State and Utah State prior to turning pro. As a freshman, he played in March Madness with Oklahoma State back in 2010. After transferring, he averaged more than 14 points per game in back-to-back years with Utah State in 2012-13 and 2013-14. Shaw briefly played in the G-League for the Santa Cruz Warriors in 2015-16 before continuing his career overseas.
