Sanders then asked Dempsey a few questions before allowing him to practice his “elevator pitch.”
“You’re pitching for $200,000?” Sanders said.
“You’re doing the whole presentation? You want to practice it in front of your team?
“Give the intro, give me an intro. Come on, 200,000-dollar grant, let’s go.
“Giving you a good rehearsal.”
Dempsey then attempted to talk to his teammates and coaches about his business plan, but Sanders stopped him to offer a few presentation tips.
“I like it, but … keep them with you. Don’t just stand in one spot — work the room,” Sanders told Dempsey.
“Pick out three guys in the room, make eye contact with them and work the room.”
Dempsey then used Sanders’ advice for his presentation, and the Colorado meeting room gave a round of applause for the 6-foot-2 player.
When Dempsey took his seat, Sanders gave him his flowers.
