Apple is developing a Vision Pro that connects to Macs

Apple Vision Pro headset, which is rumored to directly connect to Macs, represents a significant advancement in Apple's technological ecosystem. This new model aims to provide a bidirectional data path that surpasses the current limitations of simple screen mirroring . The existing Vision Pro utilizes a $300 developer accessory for limited connectivity; however, this future iteration seeks to create a more integrated connection that could enhance performance and reduce latency for demanding applications such as surgical imagery or flight simulation .

The company has been debating the best direction forward for the product after disappointing sales, Gurman says, but is now moving forward with two different models. One would address probably the two biggest complaints about the initial product — its weight and its $3,500 price tag.

Apple is reportedly building another model that would connect to a user’s Macs allowing them to stream the content on their display and use enterprise applications.

Additionally, a lighter and cheaper model is being worked on. There had previously been mixed reporting on whether or not this product had been seriously postponed, but it’s still a high priority to Apple. Gurman notes that the current Vision Pro headset weighs nearly 1.5 pounds, and can cause neck/head strain.

Vision Pro and Macs would empower developers. While wireless Xcode debugging is possible, large apps can suffer from slow installation unless using the Developer Strap. Removing these limitations would enable faster workflows and enhance user experiences across professional fields.Beyond just Xcode, seamless integration could unlock powerful features like real-time asset transfer and collaborative design reviews within Vision Pro. Imagine architects projecting CAD models directly from their Macs into a shared virtual space for clients to explore, or filmmakers instantly reviewing visual effects previews composited onto live action footage. Such tight integration would not only accelerate development cycles but also unlock entirely new creative possibilities. The potential for Vision Pro to become a genuine productivity and collaboration hub hinges on bridging this gap, transforming it from a compelling standalone device into a deeply integrated component of the professional's Apple ecosystem
