MAIDEN, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A preschool teacher is facing abuse and assault charges, according to Maiden Police.
On Monday, March 31, police were alerted to possible child abuse in the 2- and 3-year-old class at Maiden Rosenwald Preschool Academy. An investigation was launched, and the preschool staff immediately prevented the accused teacher from having contact with students.
On Tuesday, April 1, police carried out a search warrant at the preschool and got security video, employee records, and other items.

Police say staff and board members for the preschool have been very cooperative. Authorities have not said what exactly happened.
On April 10, Cheryl Ikerd Dobbs, 46, the teacher accused of the abuse, was arrested and charged with four counts of misdemeanor child abuse and 15 counts of misdemeanor assault on a child under twelve. Dobbs is being held on a $9,500 secured bond.
The investigation is still ongoing.
