ITV’s gritty crime drama Grace returned last night (6th April), launching John Simm’s Roy Grace and Richie Campbell’s Glenn Branson back onto our screens for another adventure.
Season 5 continues to adapt Peter James’s ever-popular crime novels, picking up with Roy and Cleo (Zoë Tapper) following the death of Sandy, and the revelation that Roy has a son called Bruno who he had never known about.
Other returning cast members include Laura Elphinstone as DC Bella May, Sam Hoare as Cassian Pew, Brad Morrison as DC Nick Nicholl and Rebecca Scroggs as Ari Branson.
Line of Duty actor Craig Parkinson will not be seen in the new season as DS Norman Potting, after he confirmed that he would be parting ways with the show after the season 4 finale.
“After a very happy few years I’ve made the decision to hand in Norman Potting’s detective badge,” he announced on Instagram just before season 4 aired.
“It’s been a wonderful experience taking this character from page to screen and updating him for a new audience.”
He continued: “There was a huge sense of responsibility in portraying such a character from Peter James’s much-loved book series, but with a few tweaks here and there from our excellent script team and the support from Peter, I’m really glad that he resonated with the audience.”
“Massive thanks to everyone that’s watched, supported and also those that have said hello when we’ve been filming around Brighton and Hove.”

Brighton-based detective superintendent Roy Grace is a methodical, “hard-working police officer who has given his life to the job”. Several years ago his wife Sandy went missing, a mystery he was never able to crack.
In season 4, he finally found Sandy, but she took her own life soon after and revealed in a letter to Roy that he has a son, Bruno. In season 5, Roy is getting to know Bruno while he and his fiancée Cleo come to terms with the recent loss of a baby.
Where have I seen John Simm before? Simm is probably best known for playing the Master in Doctor Who and detective Sam Tyler in the acclaimed Life on Mars. Other projects have included Collateral, Strangers, Trauma, Cold Courage and The Village alongside Maxine Peake.
Richie Campbell plays DS Glenn Branson

Where have I seen Richie Campbell before? Campbell is known for playing Chris in Top Boy and Liam Sutcliffe in Liar. He also starred in BBC One anthology series Small Axe, playing Rothwell Kentish in the episode ‘Mangrove’.
Laura Elphinstone plays DS Bella Moy

Where have I seen Laura Elphinstone before? You’ll know her as Brandyce in Line of Duty, among various other roles in the likes of Military Wives, Des, Chernobyl and Game of Thrones.
Zoë Tapper plays Cleo Morey

Where have I seen Zoë Tapper before? Tapper is best known for her roles in series such as Mr Selfridge and Liar. She also appeared in Netflix series The One and BBC’s Rules of the Game.
Sam Hoare as ACC Cassian Pewe
