Local Government Meetings: April 7-11, 2025 ...Middle East

This series of posts will be made weekly on Chapelboro to help inform our community about local government meetings. All meeting days, locations and times may be subject to change. Check town, county, and school district websites for additional information.

It’s budget season in local government, with budget-focused meetings for the Carrboro Town Council and both of Orange County’s school boards. Long-term development is also on this week’s agenda: Orange County Commissioners will get the latest draft of a 25-year plan, while the Chapel Hill Town Council considers a five-year housing plan – as well as one specific development proposal, for housing and retail on Elliott Road.

Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.

Orange County

The Carrboro Town Council has a budget work session at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 8. Get the full agenda at this link.

Orange County Commissioners also hold a work session Tuesday, April 8, starting at 7 p.m. in the Southern Human Services Center. Commissioners will get the latest draft of a 25-year land use plan and consider next steps; they’ll discuss planning for agriculture and the county’s farmland; they’ll receive a report on a 34-acre soccer complex in western Orange County; and they’ll consider appointments to various county boards and commissions. The Chapel Hill Town Council meets at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 9. Tops on the agenda: council members will consider a zoning application for a mixed-use development on South Elliott Road that would include up to 350 housing units plus at least 4,000 square feet of retail space. The council will also vote on an annual plan and five-year plan for public housing, and hold a public forum on the use of Community Development Block Grant funds. The Orange County School Board meets Monday, April 7, at 7 p.m. in the Whitted Building. This week’s meeting is budget-focused, with a public hearing followed by a possible vote on a budget proposal for the next fiscal year. Get the full agenda at this link.

And the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School Board meets at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 10. Board members will hold a work session on next year’s budget, with public comments this week a final vote likely at their next meeting on April 17; they’ll also get an overview of a 10-year capital investment plan and vote on next year’s school calendar. Chatham and Durham Counties

The Durham City Council meets twice this week, on Monday, April 7 and again on Thursday, April 10. Click here for links to both agendas.

Durham County Commissioners meet at 9 a.m. Monday, April 7. Commissioners will hear presentations from the Museum of Life & Science and the BULLS Academies for life science, as well as a presentation on supporting small businesses and an update on a plan to transform an inactive 18-mile rail line from Durham to Roxboro into a usable trail. And the Durham school board will meet twice this week: first, a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, to get public comment on next year’s budget, followed by the board’s regular work session at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10.
