To the Editor:
People need to be reminded that this isn’t an oligarchy. Just because we aren’t rich doesn’t mean you can violate and destroy us or steal our property because you don’t like the way we look.
No matter how much your eyes hurt from seeing our circumstances or the way we have to live, you have no right to steal from us and constantly make our situations worse because your visual comfort has been compromised. Imagine how we feel living it.
We try to stay out of the cold and rain by building a shelter or buying a car just to stay alive. But you people kill us and force us to be exposed to the elements because you don’t like the way we look or the visuals associated with the way we are forced — not choose — to live.
Just because there are more of you than there are of us, you think you can make laws that essentially sentence us to slow deaths for the sake of your delicate sensibilities. Any one of you could be in my spot next week if the wrong circumstances hit you like they did me. Then you’ll know how your godless and self-serving ordinances destroy good people and turn us into monsters who have to drink or do drugs just to stay awake, stay warm, and curb the hunger that’s constantly knocking at our guts’ door.
For all of you who think, “Oh, we just got a whole bunch of money allocated to help the homeless,” you’re not paying attention. That money is going to pay the overpaid workers who make a living pretending to help the homeless. There are no beds available in this city. Ten percent of the homeless population fits in those few beds in that undersized building they call a shelter. There are ten or so employees working every day doing nothing useful except cultivating an image of themselves as righteous, superior individuals. Show me a social worker, and I’ll show you a narcissist. Yeah, they have housed a scant few people, but just enough to justify their employment. I digress; there is just so much wrong with the way the people of this city handle this problem I could go on for 5,000 more words, but I’m done.
If you can see yourself described in this letter, then you’re the problem.
God is watching, and He isn’t on your side.
