During a panel appearance at 90s Con in Hartford, Conn., on Sunday, March 30, AJ McLean was asked if there were ever any big physical blowouts between the boys.

“He was a big comic book collector, and I went through a really bad acne phase when I was a teenager. I was 14 or 15, and he kept calling me Pizza Face, and he had just picked up an Alien vs. Predator [Volume] 1, and I was like, ‘Call me Pizza Face one more time…’ And I held the comic book over the sink at Kevin [Richardson]’s apartment with a lighter, and I said, ‘Call me Pizza Face one more time.’”
That’s when Carter “came up and put me in a headlock and just started punching the back of my head,” McLean recalled. “At this time, Kevin, Brian [Littrell] and Howie [Dorough] lived together. So Brian was in his room on the phone. Kevin heard this rustle, came out in a towel from the shower; towel falls off — twig and berries out! Howie runs out, sits down, he's eating popcorn, and it's a movie. He's like, ‘This is amazing!’”
McLean continued, “I’m like, ‘Nick, stop punching me. What's happening?’ It was so much happening at one time.”
Then, McLean said, the “same thing” happened. “[Nick] put me in a headlock and punched the back of my head,” he recounted. “I guess he realized, don't touch the face. Just punch the back of the head.”
90s Con is taking place March 28-30 at the Connecticut Convention Center.
