Natalie Mash will serve as the new board president for the Greeley-Evans District 6 Board of Education following Michael Mathews’ resignation on Monday.
At the March 10 Board of Education meeting, Mathews announced he planned to step down as president, allowing the next leader to take the reins. Although his term-limited role expires in November, he wants to spend his final months on the school board providing support and being a resource during the transition, he said at Monday’s board meeting.
“To be able to go above and beyond and to put in the time and effort he has, the district — and the community in general — is in huge debt to Michael,” board member Kyle Bentley said. “Michael’s small in stature only … he’s a giant in our community.”
On Monday, Bentley went on to nominate Mash as the next president, approved 5-0 by the board. Mash entered her second four-year term on the school board and took over as vice president for Terri Pappas in November 2023.
Mash’s time on the board started with a one-year term in 2018 upon former board member Roger DeWitt’s departure. She was elected for a four-year term the following year.
“I have been honored to get to observe what calm, steady, gracious leadership looks like,” Mash said about Mathews. “Thank you to my board members for allowing me the opportunity to pick up this mantle.”
Bentley will serve as the new vice president after a 5-0 vote by the board on Monday. Board member Doran Azari nominated Bentley to the position.
Voters elected Bentley as a school board member in November 2021. His term expires this November.
“I have had the privilege of doing this for almost six and a half years,” Mathews said. “It has been a great honor, and it has been a great joy.”
