2 house fires overnight reportedly caused by lightning ...Middle East

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Fire departments in the Austin area responded to two fires late Sunday night that were reportedly caused by lightning strikes.

Lake Travis Fire Rescue firefighters were called to a structure fire in the 100 block of Whitley Drive around 9 p.m. Sunday night, according to a post from the department on X.

LTFR said "initial reports indicate the fire may have been caused by a lightning strike." Everyone was evacuated from the home and no injuries were reported. The department also said a family cat was found and reunited with the family.

The Austin Fire Department helped respond to a house fire near the airport shortly after 10:30 p.m., according to its X account.

AFD said firefighters responded to the 8000 block of Cottage Rose Drive after a caller reported that “the house was struck by lightning," and they could "see smoke and fire out of the roof.”

The department gave updates about the fire in a series of posts, noting in the final one that searches of the home were conducted with "nothing found."
