The note that proves it: Meghan has won ...Middle East

On Thursday Meghan sent a handwritten note, on monogrammed, Crown-embossed card, technically to one podcaster but really, surely, to the world. It proved something, without a shadow of doubt. She has won.

It was cheeky. It was jubilant. It was perfect.

Ding, ding, ding, jackpot! Good for her. The anti-Meghan brigade have just loathed her all the way to the bank, and made her more famous than ever. And let’s be totally honest here – if Stacey Solomon had made that programme, everyone would have loved it.

Especially as she has previously insisted that she doesn’t read her own press, because, “It can all sort of just feel like noise”. (And guessing that noise sounds a lot like “boo”.)

After all, is it ironic that a programme called With Love has been almost solely hate-watched, or the best marketing imaginable? As she said in her note, now it’s time for fun.

Meghan can also hopefully see that much of what has been said about her show, and the strength of the vitriol aimed at it, is ridiculous. She was taking things out of bags and putting them in other bags, not sticking drawing pins into puppies’ eyeballs.

There was outrage that she filmed in a house that “wasn’t even hers” (wait till they find out all those EastEnders don’t really live in Albert Square) and at her hair and make-up. On this TV show, she was dressed more to look good on a TV show than in a manner practical for cooking, if you can believe such a thing. Also, imagine if she had been in stain-splattered scruffs, and how that would have gone down.

Meghan must have learned by now – the hardest way possible – that she’s damned if she does and damned if she doesn’t. So she might as well stop trying to please everyone, grin and lean in.

With Love, Meghan is her most successful project so far. She’s having the last laugh. And she can probably fill a whole episode in the second series explaining how to execute the perfect calligraphy clapback. Bravo.
