The City of Greeley and the Greeley Fire Department are partnering with the Ember Alliance to conduct prescribed burns in two natural areas this spring after postponing operations last fall.
The burns will take place between March 31 and April 11 at Signature Bluffs Natural Area and the Poudre Learning Center, according to a release from the city of Greeley.
The city says exact dates will be determined based on weather conditions, as well as staff and equipment availability and will be posted on the Greeley Fire Department and city of Greeley social media channels when finalized.
In anticipation of conducting a controlled burn this past fall at Signature Bluffs Natural area, the city and Ember Alliance hosted a public information session on the use of prescribed burns for wildlife fire mitigation and natural resource management.
That burn was postponed until this year, but the city says the recording of the session will be uploaded to its Youtube channel in the coming weeks.
The Ember Alliance is a Fort Collins-based nonprofit organization consisting of woodland fire practitioners, researchers, analysts and instructors. The organization is dedicated to increasing prescribed forest with the goal of restoring communities’ relationships with fire and ecosystem processes with fire, according to its website, Emberalliance.org.
