A MAJOR change is coming to Taco Bell that’s set to cut wait times at 8,000 locations – and it’s something KFC already does.

The fast food giant is introducing a modern helper to the kitchen that has the potential to make your visits quicker.

Taco Bell has showcased its labor-saving AI technology that will soon be helping employees get your food to you faster.

Its developed by the company Yum, and together, the “Byte by Yum” helper was shown off at a New York event, per Fox Business.

According to the company, Byte by Yum “includes online and mobile app ordering, point of sale, kitchen and delivery optimization, menu management, inventory and labor management, and team member tools.”

In a demonstration, the COO (Chief Operating Officer) of Taco Bell Jason Kidd played a video skit of a restaurant manager talking to a human character playing the role of an AI assistant.

The actor says in the video: “I noticed Brad hasn’t clocked in yet for his shift, and you’re heading into your last shift crew for the night.

“Maybe he’s out sick. Don’t worry if he is. I can work the drive-thru.”

This was to show the current and planned use of the AI machine in Taco Bell locations, which actually utilizes an element of it in select spots.

About 500 Taco Bell US locations have AI voice technology to take drive-thru orders.

That number is up from roughly 100 locations that Yum cited in July 2024.

Byte by Yum is already operating globally across KFC‘s locations, and will be coming to more Taco Bell ones soon.

There is not a reported date for when this will happen.

Yum says 25,000 restaurants globally are already using “at least one Byte by Yum product.”

Taco Bell came off 2024 reporting solid numbers, according to a company statement.

It said: “Coming off a hot 2024, Taco Bell’s outstanding performance is carrying into the first quarter, with U.S. same-store sales projected to increase 8% in Q1 2025 as crave-worthy new product offerings have helped accelerate momentum and boost traffic.”

But Yum isn’t the only company bringing fast food chains in the US into the future.

The US Sun reports that this is being done to cut down on how “stressful” going to McDonald’s can be.

Brian Rice, McDonald’s Chief Information Officer, said: Our restaurants, frankly, can be very stressful.

We have customers at the counter, we have customers at our drive-through, couriers coming in for delivery, delivery at curbside.

“That’s a lot to deal with for our crew.”

He added: “Technology solutions will alleviate the stress.”
