Baby Bulls Lead the Way, Dalen Terry’s Best Game, Josh Giddey’s Double-Double Streak, and Other Bulls Bullets ...Middle East

With lottery odd ramifications at play, the argument could have easily been made that it was in the Chicago Bulls’ best interest to lose last night’s game in Philadelphia. Even head coach Billy Donovan and Company appeared to recognize that shortly before tip-off, ruling out big man Nikola Vucevic despite him starting the day absent from the injury report.

So, naturally, the Bulls went on to score a season-high 142 points and win by 32.

Last night’s dominant victory felt like the most on-brand thing ever. Even when this team wins, they somehow make it feel like a loss. With that said, we can’t ignore how god-awful the Philadelphia 76ers were. While a part of me is undoubtedly frustrated that the Chicago Bulls fluffed up their Play-In Tournament cushion, I’m convinced a G League team would’ve beaten last night’s 76ers squad. Let’s not forget the Bulls were without Vucevic, Ayo Dosunmu, Patrick Williams, and Jalen Smith – they did what they could to lose that game. Yet, despite having Tyrese Maxey and Paul George on the floor, the 76ers shot just 38.9 percent from the field and turned the ball over 17 times. I’m not quite sure I’ve seen a less motivated group this season.

“Tonight was an example,” Billy Donovan told Bulls dot com. “We can’t always be responsible for the talent or the size or the athleticism, but we can be responsible for running the floor, moving the ball, blocking out, taking care of the ball, helping one another on defense. That’s where we have to be focused and for us because we are undersized, the physicality has to be much better.”

Indeed, there was nothing the Chicago Bulls could do about the fact that their young players cared. I have no choice but to tip my cap to the Baby Bulls for taking full advantage of the opportunity in front of them. I’m sure the coaching staff had a feeling they would be out-executed by a more veteran squad, but what unfolded was one of the team’s most disciplined efforts of the season. They learned early on that cutting against this 76ers’ defense would be a breeze, so players like Dalen Terry and Julian Phillips spammed that when checking into the game. The off-ball aggressive led to A LOT of easy shots at the rim, as well as a season-high in free throw attempts. The Bulls finished the night 34-36 from the line with six different players taking at least four attempts. Dalen Terry, in particular, made quite an impression in the second unit. He tied his career-high with 17 points, scoring every field goal in the restricted area and going 5-5 from the free-throw line. Playing a late-to-react 76ers defensive surely helped, but this game should have still acted as a learning experience for Terry about how he can positively impact that end of the floor. He was extremely decisive when the ball found him and extremely intentional with his off-ball activity. To be honest, watching him felt a lot like watching Javonte Green at times when he was the Chicago Bulls. This is particularly true when we consider Terry also finished with two steals and a block. Someone needs to do the dirty work out there, and Terry has the potential to be that kind of player. © Matt Marton-Imagn Images Kevin Huerter had his best performance in a Chicago Bulls uniform. After doing his best Denzel Valentine impression over his first few games in a Chicago uniform, he has looked far more like the valuable 3-point specialist we know he can be. He followed up his 4-10 shooting night against the Suns with a 7-11 shooting and a season-high 23 points. Once again, winning this game may not have been in the Bulls’ best interest, but building the value of someone like Huerter over the final month-plus should be a goal. On an expiring deal heading into next season, there is certainly a world where he can become a very intriguing offseason trade candidate for a contender.

— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) February 25, 2025 The Matas Buzelis rookie of the year run continues. With his 17 points at Wells Fargo Center, he has now scored in double figures in 10 of the team’s last 11 games. The forward is averaging nearly 14.0 points per game to go along with 3.6 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game. Even better, he’s shooting 52.3 percent from the field and 36.5 percent from long range. His scoring versatility has been on full display in recent weeks, and I have to imagine it will start to catch the eye of voters as the regular season winds down. If there is any rookie class where you can make a late push for the award, this would be the one. Matas Buzelis could have gone for the layup … he didn’t. You have to love that.

— Bleacher Nation Bulls (@BN_Bulls) February 25, 2025 Speaking of late pushes, Josh Giddey is making himself money with his latest play. The 22-year-old free-agent-to-be is putting together easily his best stretch of the season, recording 20+ points for his third-straight game. He also grabbed 16 rebounds against Philly to give him his third-straight game with a 20-point double-double. According to Chicago Bulls PR (h/t K.C. Johnson), he joins Guy Rodgers, Clem Haskins, Jerry Sloan, and Michael Jordan as the only Bulls guards to achieve such a thing. The guard also made history with his strong first half. Statmuse says Giddey joins only Anthony Davis and Kevin Garnett as the only players since 2000 to record 17 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 blocks over the first two quarters. Yes, I know that’s a ridiculously specific stat, but it does go to show how unusual of a skillset Giddey provides in the backcourt.

— Chicago Sky (@chicagosky) February 25, 2025 Ryan Poles had plenty to talk about at the NFL Combine on Tuesday morning. Check out what the front office leader had to say here. The Cubs made a somewhat surprising trade on Monday evening and had to settle for a rather underwhelming return.
