An Adams County sheriff’s deputy was shot in the hand by a barricaded suspect during a standoff on Thursday morning, sheriff’s officials said.
The Adams County Sheriff’s Office and Brighton police were at a home in the 20400 block of East 160th Avenue when an attempt to serve a search warrant turned into a standoff, sheriff’s officials said in a post on X at 10:43 a.m.
Law enforcement teams tried to negotiate a peaceful resolution, but a SWAT team later entered the home, which is when the suspect allegedly shot at officers, according to the sheriff’s office.
One deputy sustained injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
Police issued a shelter-in-place order for nearby homes and asked that people needing to travel along the 5200 block of Bridge Street take other routes.
Brighton firefighters also responded to the home to put out a fire at an outbuilding on the property, but it wasn’t immediately clear how the fire was connected to the incident.
