February 14, 2025 (ADDIS ABABA) – Equatorial Guinea President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, chairperson of the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council, said on Friday that the crisis in Sudan requires an immediate solution as the humanitarian situation deteriorates. Addressing the council’s opening session on the situation in Sudan at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, Obiang stressed the need for dialogue to resolve the increasingly complex crisis. He acknowledged that the war has led to catastrophic conditions, resulting in thousands of deaths and the destruction of infrastructure, requiring rapid humanitarian intervention. “Sudan faces a grim picture, and a solution must be found for the afflicted Sudanese people,” Obiang said. He called for dialogue and an immediate, unconditional ceasefire to end the bloodshed of civilians, as well as greater cooperation with the United Nations and other actors to launch a peace process in Sudan.
