I always love finding The Team That No One Wants to Face in a playoff race.

And I think I’ve found them in the NBA this season: hello again, Golden State Warriors.

The Dubs are entering the All-Star break at 3-1 since the Jimmy Butler trade, with teams like the intriguing Kings, hapless Mavericks and the not bad but not great Timberwolves in front of them in the West.

But there are A LOT of games left to play. And Butler has cured what has ailed the Warriors.

Butler has shouldered some of the scoring and facilitating load since coming over. He seems happy after being disgruntled and then some with the Heat. For the first time in a while — maybe since pre-injury Klay Thompson? — Steph Curry has a fellow star at his side. And you can see it opening things up for the rest of the lineup.

Just listen to Draymond Green, via ESPN: “He’s a franchise changer. He’s done that everywhere he’s gone and he is helping revitalize what we got here. The belief amongst this team, now that he’s arrived, as opposed to what it was before he got here, it’s night and day.”

Are they good enough to beat, say, the young Thunder? The always-tough Grizzlies? The so-good-they-seem-casual-about-it Nuggets? That’s tougher. All I know is I don’t want to face this team in the playoffs. That’s a huge victory considering where they were before the NBA trade deadline.

Team USA took care of business

Finland on paper looked like a tougher matchup that it would seem in the 4 Nations Face-Off. Good goaltending and some depth at forward could have been a problem.

But nope! Team USA scored a bunch in the second and third period of their opening tournament game with a decisive 6-1 victory. That was the kind of game they needed to have the confidence to face a Canada squad that nearly lost to Sweden.

Can’t wait for Saturday’s matchup.
